Season 2 of The Witcher will feature more great songs, says showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. Based on the popular Polish book series of the same name from Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher premiered on Netflix in December of 2019 and went on to become the streamer’s most popular debut season ever. Therefore, Netflix clearly made the right decision to renew the series for a sophomore season before the first even aired.

The Witcher follows Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), a monster hunter who was mutated by magic at a young age, and an eclectic cast of characters including the sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) and Princess Ciri (Freya Allen), with these separate stories converging at the end of season 1. To tell these character’s respective stories, the show adopted a non-linear format, which some found to be effective and some found to be equally confusing. The Witcher season 1 also introduced the jovial bard named Jaskier (Joey Batey) who frequently accompanies Geralt on his travels, much to Geralt’s annoyance. Jaskier’s songs were not only well-received within the context of the series, but were a huge hit with fans as well.

Now, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich says The Witcher season 2 will feature “some pretty great songs” as well. During a panel at the Television Critics Association press tour (via Collider), Hissrich confirmed that Jaskier will be back in season 2 with some more catchy tunes. Of course, The Witcher showrunner avoided spoilers for the upcoming season, but she did tease that one of Jaskier’s new songs will be a “great moment for Angela’s character.”

Of all the side characters introduced in season 1, Jaskier was the fan-favorite in large part due to his jaunty tunes, the most popular of which was Episode 2’s “Toss A Coin To Witcher,” which ended up going viral online and topping charts. A few of Jaskier’s other songs from season 1 include “The Fishmonger’s Daughter” and “Her Sweet Kiss,” but none stuck in fans’ heads like the viral sensation that was “Toss A Coin To Your Witcher.”

Thanks to promotional images for season 2 of The Witcher, it was already known that Jaskier would be returning with his lute and a new look. The bard was last seen traveling with Geralt, but they went their separate ways after the witcher blamed him for all his misfortunes. It’s unclear how Jaskier will return to Geralt in season 2, but it’s appearing more and more likely he will be accompanying him and Ciri to Kaer Morhen. Fans will likely just be delighted to hear he will be contributing more greats songs to the world of The Witcher.
